Ok, I will still email but wanted to post this anyway. Hope you are all being successful in your last couple weeks of classes. For drawing here is our low down:

Tuesday: Hand in Sketch book/Portfolio

There should be many drawings in your sketchbook beyond the assigned to show you have taken the initiative to draw – including the assigned of gesture, 3-d, self portrait, Internal landscape, animal/veg/tree, etc., fav. thing over break, etc.

Thursday: Critique

if you want to bring some munchies in to share, we can have a party-critique.

FINAL ASSIGNMENT DRAWING

The final assignment in the class will reveal your growth as a student in Drawing I.

Hopefully it will be the culmination of all of your understanding of rendering in drawing.

Objective: to choose one of the following as your final project. You should research the suggested names of artists to do your rendering for the critique on the Tuesday. One paragraph of the person you researched is due on critique day – just to indicate why you liked the artist or what part you liked and how you incorporated that into your final project in the end – and if you were successful in the end.

Critique: April 30 Thursday

-All will be done on large paper – your choice of graphite or charcoal or pastel

-You will meet with me to inform me what you are doing and I can give you mentorship in your process. (email or meet with me in or outside of class)

You must inform me your intention by next Thursday (April 2)

1.) The Portrait

You will draw a portrait of either someone (or pet) that you love. In this you will do the process in a step procedure:

Step 1. Have the individual sit for you while you sketch them roughly for at least 4 rough drawings in your sketchbook. At this time photograph your subject. Remember the photos must be a good one to get the necessary understanding of who you are drawing. A good idea is to photograph outside out of the sun and black and white. Take a few photos to get the best one.

Step 2. Practice the pose if you are drawing the person from the photo and then have them sit for you for another half an hour or so to give you more understanding of what you are drawing. *remember the pose is gleaned from your research!

Research Suggestions: These are suggestions – taken from the library ARTSTORE , If there is someone you like under portrait drawings in ARTSTORE that you like please tell me so I can approve.

THE HITCH: Once you find the person whose drawings you like, print out the drawing and utilize something similar to the artist chosen. It could be tonal quality, line quality and say, having your person pose in the same way. Use the drawing as a reference to glean from the artist

2.) The Landscape

You will draw a landscape in either graphite or charcoal. This landscape c be of an area in Port Huron that you perhaps pass every day. This landscape is one where you can draw a few sketches of in your sketchbook, and take photos of it. Look for an artist in ARTSTORE that you respond to the technique and value of the landscape and do your landscape in the similar fashion.

Research ideas: Carlo Bonovio, Winslow Homer, Leon Bonvin, Gerhard Richter

THE HITCH: When you find a landscape you are drawn to (PUN) draw it in the similar fashion as your artist of choice – utilizing similar styling or value, etc.

3.) The Still Life

You will create your own still life – with the possessions similar to the reference drawing you have sought from ARTSTRORE. They don’t have to be totally the same but in the similar fashion setup and rendering.

4.) The Collective

You chose this because you like the combination of many things. Once again you require a reference. If it is a collective of your mom in a field say, first take many photos of your mom as in the portrait above, draw her and follow the portrait aspect as above. Then get research a field like Andrew Wyeth’s field in
“Christina’s world” and print it off ARTSTORE and draw it in. **REMEMBER BLACK AND WHITE is much easier when you are drawing from a photo.

Make this a spectacular piece for yourself – an achievement that indeed, you are an artist!! YES!
