Welcome to Foundation Drawing

Welcome to the Drawing Blog of Foundation Drawing 101 at St. Clair County Community College.  This Course will introduce students to freehand, drawing, emphasing creative expression and astute observation through the use and exploration of various drawing media. Students will concentrate on the fundamentals, knowledge, attitude and skill (line, volume, tone, texture, prospective, observation and composition) necessary for the development of visual imagery.

Foundation Drawing Week One

I feel very privileged to lead you into foundation drawing this term.  It is just awesome to get to know each of you through your art.  In seeing you work, already - I can tell each and every one of you will become excellent in the skill of drawing by the time you complete this course.  You will be gathering some essential skills to push you through to be solid in your footing in drawing and mark making.

Some Lowdown stuff review for you:

1. It is so important to be in class.  It is only 3 months long (now) and it is your time to develop this skill.  Trust me, it will go by fast!
2. Webstudy will be used just for the grading aspect. All course info will be put on this blog that you can always have access to!
3. Important to turn Project/Portfolio in on time.
4. Grading: please refer to syllabus.  In this I place a great deal in attitude and willingness to develop and do the work as the best of your present ability.  In seeing you work, I know for a fact if you show up and do the work, there is no reason not to develop as an artist!
5. Classroom conduct: Cellphones - turn off.
6. When doing long drawings please keep talking down to a minimum so  not to disturb your neighbor's "zen" in drawing.
7. Keep room clean - please clean up after yourself after class
8. Breaks take as needed
9. Use spray fixative/aerosol outside the classroom
10. EarBuds Cool during drawing - I will try to shift in sound for drawing.
11. Ok to eat during class.  It is important to be nourished and hydrated as drawing is real physical work.  Being well nourished and hydrated can really make a difference on how we see things.  Totally!!
12. SUPPLIES:  All supplies will be supplied to you except a Sketchbook.  Sketchbook can be now purchased in the bookstore for those who have not yet picked one up.  There may be other supplies you may desire to pick up for yourself.  ie. Hobby Lobby for example may have some cool fine drawing pens that you desire to try, etc.
13. Pick yourself up a pencil pouch or better yet ...a cigar box is ultra cool to store pencils in. 
    
    
    

        less the cigars of course.  Pencils seem to fit so very perfect in these boxes!

13.  My office hours are noted on the syllabus - always here in the morning T/TH during the week and if 

        you need help with anything - or want to talk about art in any shape or form, I am always    

        available.  I can be available through email and if so desire to book an                                

      appointment to specifically talk or if you wish at a different time other than office hours. 

I encourage your artist to come out this semester.  I am open to lead outside class art outings or art projects in the community.
